This is KKIDZ first post for 2011. We’d like to start by thanking everyone for their constant support. We welcome all of our old and friends to be to a new year!
As we pack life’s experiences of 2010 into our mental index, we can look forward to 2011 serving, for most, as a demarcation point for a fresh start and new beginning.
You may have come across this site as a fellow artist or a supporter of the arts…As KKIDZ we believe art comes in all forms and your talents may be more valuable than you realize. Whether it’s the ability to keep your composure in a tough situation, make someone smile, rock a show or paint a mural…none of these can be greater than Thee Life Artist.
For its Thee Life Artist who balances the splendor and injustices of daily life to maintain peace of mind and relative happiness. It’s a balanced message which contains keywords of events, thoughts, and emotions that we experience during the course of a year. Guru and DJ Premier rose to fame in the 80′s as the iconic rap group Gangstarr. They found instant success with their acclaimed 1989 debut, No More Mr. Nice Guy, and the 1991 classic Step In the Arena. Gang Starr, meanwhile, continued to lord over the underground hip-hop scene in New York and refine the genre of jazz-rap throughout the ’90s until the release of the 2003 album The Ownerz, which proved to be the group’s last. The group released six highly regarded albums in their tenure until 2003 when they broke up. Keith “Guru” Elam pasted away April 19th 2010 following a yearlong struggle with cancer. This tribute mixx was done by DJ Slick in early 2010 as a tribute to the iconic group before the passing of Guru…download and enjoy! R.I.P. Guru…GANGSTARR Forever!!!

Here’s a track that has taken me on a time warp and serves as a reminder. Growing up together in a crew of maniako’s with the Dank Room Family and The Looney Tune Killas (LTK), life as a teenager was never too far off from the partying and rebellious norm. One thing ALWAYS remained constant…the steady current of creativity and passion for the arts! Whether presented in the form of lyrics and constant freestyle over whatever instrumental was available to us or drawing and sketching in the black books, creativity was untainted and was free to flow. The Creative Mind Flow slogan for KKIDZ was derived from this free flowing creativity and speaks for its self. So “Sit back n relax and let your mind and body go, don’t worry bout nothing cuz we simply gotta be…better in our minds n our hearts than what’s around happening”. My first exposure to the Morning Benders was the Excuses video back in February 2010. I was left with a dumb look on my face half way through! Creativity at its smoothest….Very pleasing to the ear with hints of Etta James “At Last” on the strings and underneath it a bass line from Ritchie Valens “We Belong Together”, Chris Chu’s voice and then you got the lyrics!!! All this makes ”Excuses” one of the sexiest songs I’ve ever heard.
